Salwa..!

Salwa..!

Here the name does not refer to a girl or to any human being, though it is widely discussed. ‘Salwa’ refers to of a 95 km long international highway extending from Abu Samra border to Industrial Interchange. The Beautification works on the highway, which was started in 2001, turned out to be a failure - a matter that needed urgent interference.

An international company responsible for designing the highway project undertook the beautification project. However, the designing was not properly reviewed by the concerned authority of that period. After winning tender, the Malaysian company started executing the contract in 2003. For the next nine months, the project work did not record any considerable progress. During the rainfall in last December, some gutters and pits appeared on all the three lanes of the road along 55 kilometers proceeding from Doha towards Abu Samra.

As responsible public service provider, Ashghal dealt with the matter seriously. Ashghal considers its duty to deal with all feedbacks and complaints with due consideration, whether they are received through its own feedback system or through popular media, as it has nothing to hide from the public. Shortly, the report of follow up committee who looked into the defects and shortcomings in construction of Salwa road was published. It is also Ashghal’s policy to inform the public regarding development of its project works.

The committee report has clearly pointed out the faults and problems in the design of the project. The consultant has designed the project based on measurements beyond the standards and specifications of Qatar. Due to the transparency and truthfulness of Ashghal, public opinion on the issue emerged through newspaper columns and media responses.

Ashghal’s first five-year plan to develop and improve the state infrastructure, especially in the field of public transport, has been on the work from the past 22 months. Construction of new roads; reconstruction and development of existing roads; building bridges, underpasses and intersections are progressing as per modern standards and international specifications. While executing its aspiring projects, Ashghal takes care to deal with existing situations in roads and other infrastructure network of the state.

So... What all of you thinking? This is from the Ashghal Magazine.
